Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness
A trip to the Scottish Highlands would not be complete without saying hello to our resident monster, Nessie. We highly recommend Loch ness by Jacobite for an unforgettable way to experience the world famous loch.
Cairngorm Mountain
Cairngorm Mountain provides year round activities. Whether its snowsports, walking, cycling, or a trip up the funicular railway for a spot of lunch and some gift shopping, the Cairngorm Mountain offers spectacular views of the UK's largest national park.
Nairn Beach
You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful award winning beaches within 25 mins drive of River Huts. With clean white sweeping sands, Nairn beach is a particular favorite. Grab an ice cream at the pretty harbour, wander through Fishertown, have a seat on the promenade looking over central beach and watch the dolphins, or walk for miles east along the sands towards Culbin Forest. Head west at low tide and you will find the secret beach. A vast expanse of unspoiled white sand that's rarely visited and you could be the only ones there, apart from a few seals or dolphins.
Golf
Scotland is home to some of the best golf courses in the world and the Highlands are no exception. The famous Castle Stuart Golf Links is just 15 minute drive from River Huts.
Inverness
Exploring Inverness you’ll find an abundance of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. The pretty riverside walk takes you past the castle and the cathedral. Enjoy street food along the riverside and wander through the tranquil ness islands.
North Coast 500 'The Ultimate Road Trip'
River Huts are just 7 miles south of Inverness, the official start of the NC500 route and provide the perfect place from where to begin and end your NC500 adventure.
Cairngorm National Park
Take in the stunning scenery of the UK's largest National Park. The area offers watersports, snowsports, some incredible walking, cycling routes and has 12 golf courses.
Daviot Wood
Daviot Wood is a great place to stomp that's just on our doorstep. The paths are wide and level, so they're ideal for cycling, and for mobility scooters. The walks are well signposted with trails to suit all abilities. Daviot Wood is a short hill puff from River Huts, however for reduced mobility access we recommend driving to the main forest entrance at North Gate where you will find a cafe, toilet facilities and easy access to the woods.
River Nairn & Culloden Battlefield
We are situated on the banks of the River Nairn beside this beautiful 18th century (circa 1730's) General Wade military bridge in an area which has significant links to the Battle of Culloden. Our location featured on the hit Sky History series River Hunters in May 2022.
WHISKY
Don't Quote us, but we estimate there's around 60 distilleries (give or take) within a 90 minute drive of River Huts. So if whisky is your thing, then you've definitely come to the right place! Many of the distilleries do tours where you can experience the whisky making process first hand. Tomatin Distillery is our nearest and well worth sampling a dram.
